The Sayville “Summerfest,” has traditionally been an event that featured craft vendors, a carnival, entertainment and classic cars.

This year, on August 2, 3 and 4, the event is called “The New Sayville Summer Festival” because we are adding to the baseline of successful events to enhance the value to our community and local merchants.

On Saturday, August 3rd, a featured event within the festival is called, “Stars & Stripes.” One of our goals will be to help the American Legion raise funds that the Legion can use to provide transitional support benefits to local veterans and their family members.

On display will be military assets secured from the American Air Power Museum located at the Republic airport in Farmingdale.

Our Town has been decorated with American flags.

The Sayville Fire Department will (creating a hook & ladder arch) drape a giant American flag across Main Street.

We have invited the Army and the Marines to set up a rock wall, recruiting station and exercise competition.

We have invited a local NYS militia group to set up a civil war hospital tent encampment.

Other “Stars & Stripes” activities will include:

  • A Color Guard Presentation

  • Taps

  • Twenty-one Gun Salute

  • Uniformed Marine display of the Unforgotten Soldier (Freedom is Not Free)

  • The National Anthem vocal – by Gary Lorentzson (Professional Vocalist)

  • Recognition Awards presented by local politicians (Congressmen Peter King and others) to dedicated veterans

  • God Bless America vocal – by Gary Lorentzson (Professional Vocalist)

  • Musical Entertainment by the “Manhattan Dolls” and “Sinatra/Bing” male vocalist (Sponsor: Cogent Wealth Management)

  •  “Manhattan Dolls” photo opportunities

  • American Legion Raffles and item sales
