As the waves lapped upon the shore,
Sweethearts attending the Sayville Music Boosters for the
Arts 3rd Annual Valentine’s Event, at Lands End in Sayville,
dined and danced to romantic music from the 1930’s, 40’s,
50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s (who can dance to anything
romantic recorded after the 1980’s anyway?).
Ms. Debbie
Abbate, dancer and teacher with Ovations Dance Academy in
Bohemia gave a fun and rhythmic ballroom dancing lesson the
evening of the 3rd Annual Sweetheart Dance. I
could not believe my eyes as I watched the men
enthusiastically join in the lesson, then glide and twirl
their partners around the dance floor with grace and élan.
Wasn’t it just yesterday these men were firmly entrenched in
their seats refusing the pleas of their wives to ‘just dance
this one dance’? Yes, in fact, it was; but that was before
Ms. Debbie taught the lesson! Brava, Ms. Debbie!
It was a
magical evening, love was in the air (along with the aroma
of fine food) and laughter mingled with music as Sweethearts
and friends joined together to raise money for the artistic
development of our children.
Sayville
Music Boosters for the Arts is now in its 33rd year of
promoting all aspects of the arts in our schools. SMBA is a
non-profit organization run by volunteers and last year SMBA
distributed $16,000 in grants and awards to deserving
Sayville students.
