Everything’s Jake is a disc catching and retrieving contest for dogs and their owners.

July 10th in Gillette Park was the fourth annual contest in Sayville, NY. This year however, was a special memorial tribute organized by Dan Huebner for Alan Michalak, who died suddenly last September. Alan began this event four years ago naming it after his oldest of four Yellow Labs, Jake who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

The event began this year with Huebner sharing fond memories of Alan and how his congenial personality drew Huebner into Everything’s Jake in the first place. Organizers from Mid-Atlantic Disc Dogs, a regional organization and Yankee Flyer Dog & Disc Club helped run the event. On the microphone was Mad-Dogs Ray Lowman and their president Frank Montgomery also assisting along with Frank Kerchner, Bill Lupone, Diane Campbell, Matt Derfler, David Gosch, Trisha Attridge, Nicole Huebner and Rob Izzo.

Before the contests began, Yankee Flyer Club President, Corinne Brewer sang and played a song she composed for Alan.

After the Star Spangled Banner, many types of dogs were raring to go, much to the delight of all the spectators. There were several types of contests such as “Distance and Accuracy”, “Spot Landing”, “Freestyle” and “Extreme Distance” and the results of all the contests can be found on this website www.mad-dogs.org/events/results.html by scrolling down to July 10, 2010.

Huebner hopes to continue Everything’s Jake in years to come.
